what is this wire?

I have a 72 50hp johnson. 2 wires have corroded off running from the junction box around to the opposite side going directly into the side of the engine. There are no other wires around it. Everything seems to be working ok regardless. Does anyone know what those wires are for?

could be for the choke<br />some models had heat sensitive chokes in addition to the manual override

i think their colors were purple/yellow ?<br />purple/white?<br />not sure<br />if in doubt post back and i will look up wiring diag.

The boat is about an hour away right now but im pretty sure the wires are purple and green. im stumped to what they are. seems like since they are running into the engine that they probably<br />have something to do with a heat gauge. i've been looking for diagrams but having no luck.
