I have a 2000 115 johnson. The picture is from another 115 but is the same as mine. What is the red thing that the arrow is pointing too and what is its purpose?

Thanks

So, you unscrew it and deliver fogging oil, sea foam, etc?

Re: What is this?

Pretty much.Your dealer has aerosol cans that have a fitting to screw onto the valve.

Unless I'm mistaken, it is a schrader valve, similar to your car's tires. Therefore, the can of fogging oil needs to have that sort of tube on it. I don't know if Seafoam/Deep Creep comes with it, but some OEM products do.

Re: What is this?

Just as an FYI, in case you're interested. I've purchased 3 used engines over the past decade or so and always have similar type of questions. I've found it very valuable to get an "owner's manual" (as opposed to a service manual -also a good idea). They explain everything the normal owner needs to know about the engine, routine maintenance, etc. For older OMC manuals that aren't available through BRP.com, you can find them through Kencook.com

Completely agree with dajohnson. I just bought my first boat/outboard ('97 175hp Oceanrunner) and have already procured an OMC factory shop manual, Seloc manual and parts catalog for it. The owner's manual is on order at the local Johnson dealer.

Shop manuals are great for repairing, but owner's manuals are invaluable for telling you how to actually operate and maintain the blasted thing. I didn't know what that red thingie was either. You beat me to asking the question. Thanks!
