I have a 1978 Gregor Alum 15' freshwater fishing boat that was given to me by a buddy in San Diego (not near salt water) a few months ago. The boat sat in his back yard for about 16 years uncovered. I have finished removing the interior and now I plan on attacking the exterior. The entire hull is covered with little raised spots, dull white in color. 75% of the spot will come off if I scratch it with my thumnail leaving an ugly grayish spot.
Is this oxidation ?
I haven't tried removing these spots as yet as I'm unsure as to how best to proceed. My initial plan is to clean all of these spots off the entire hull, polish and seal with a gel-coat or something similar to preserve the "like new" alum appearance. I need some experienced guidance on this so I don't waste time and more importantly money on needless materials and labor.
Appreciate any help guys.
