Anyone???? I have a 1989 Celebrity 180v. What is the black box under the dash board, on the left with the selection dial?

Trace the purple wire bundle. Where does it go? Maybe to the gauge cluster?

It seems like the black and orange wires are voltage and being there are two purples I would think it is some sort of circuit completer (switch)...

Just a guess. My purple wires are for the tach. Maybe it's the inner workings of your tach with just the needle at the guage. Selector switch for different motors. Orange wire=power, black wire=ground. Another thought, Pull the connector and see what quits working.

My friend and I have been discussing it all morning. He is an an electrical engineer and said the same thing you said. You are right though, I will disconnect it and see. I just hope it isnt the anti-explosion device !

It's the trigger for the ejection seat.

The tach is what I was thinking but have never seen a control panel for the settings. It's always been on the back of the tach.

Maybe you could just change the selector switch from d to a and see where the smoke comes out

Let me repeat my idea from one of the many sections you posted this under (don't do that again).

It looks to me like it might be an A/D (analogue to digital) converter box. I would "guess" that it's the tack. Takes the pulses from the motor and converts them to a voltage that tells your tack gauge where to be. Another possibility is if you have and digital gauges that receive an analogue signal.

I thought I was "moving" the thread. That wasn't so. I will be more careful next time. I have been looking at my manuals and think it is the "alarm buzzer"
