I know this is going to sound stupid especially once I have the name of the part!!!! But what is this in the picture and yes I jacked another persons photo because it was the same setup I have. Mine is corroded and rusty from salt water on the connections so I thought maybe it would be best to buy a new one.

Re: What is this?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Why you say that? It has rusty connections so maybe its getting contact but thought I clean it up a bit? Where can I order one if I end up doing so? And if it is cheap part I might as well order and have it on standby.

Scroll up just above your post and click on Mercruiser parts link. Click on electrical then solenoids. You will need to find the correct one for your application.

The OEM part number is 25661 = Sierra 18-5836

If it's cheap, there's nothing wrong with keeping one on hand, but if your only issue is some surface corrosion on some contacts, I'd leave it be.

Murphys Law... Nothing saying the new one is going to work better than the old.

You can say that but I disagree only because I'm anal about my stuff. It doesn't have to be brand new but I don't like ****ty stuff or for that matter even look that way. However, maybe your right if it is working no reason to mess with it because even new doesn't always mean its good. For the price its not bad I'm going to order one later but right now I have to buy my Delco, Electronic Ignition distributor due to other issues and for that will set me back a little on cash.
