Going over parts etc...

Little blue thing with two wires. One is ground and one is same post on switchbox as brown wire to distributor.

Re: What is this?

Ahh I see, the mercury filled tilt kill switch!

So from what I'm seeing in diagrams, the 1977 Mercury 1150 SN:4736xxx does not have this?
Unless I'm mistaken?

I assume it doesn't matter if it's there because it's purely an on/off kill switch? (I assume the mercury inside shorts the 2 wires based on tilt and that's all there is to it?)

Thanks :)

It may be in a different location and look a little different, but your motor has (should have, once had) a mercury kill switch on it.

It's job is to send the voltage produced by the stator to ground (instead of to the switchbox) in case the motor tilts up (say, when lower unit hits a submerged log), killing spark and shutting down the motor.
