Long time lurker, but don't know enough to contribute on most topics.

I bought a Sweetwater pontoon this spring and have used it all year.

It has a 2000 Mercury Bigfoot 60 2 stroke - oil injected engine on it. It has generally run fine except that it wants to stall at idle when in gear. I plan to have that looked at when I take it out in the fall.

Anyway, after I docked from my last trip, I noticed that there was a loose hose hanging down from the front of the engine. It's certainly possible that it has always been there, but I never noticed it before. I jumped in the water to see if there was an obvious place that it should connect and could not find anything. It looks like it has a barb fitting on one end and hopefully you can see in the picture that it circles back and connects into the engine on that horizontal plate.

I have not idead what it is or if I should be concerned. It seems to run fine still, but I want to make sure I don't damage the engine by continuing to run it. I thought it might be obvious to one of you guys that this was a problem or not.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: What is this?

That is a connection for a speedometer hose which then runs forward to the instrument panel. If you look closely down the front of the lower unit, you should see a very small hole which that hose is connected to.

Re: What is this?

Excellent - no speedometer on this boat, so that would explain why it's not hooked up. I guess it's been there all along and I just didn't notice it. Thanks for the speedy help - I feel much better now.
