Bought an old Lowe 2220 and in troubleshooting an electrical problem I found this thing.
Its the red thing that looks like some type of capacitor but with several wires plugged into it.
Never ran across anything like it before but its been several years since I worked on a boat.
I don't think it has anything to do with my electrical problem but I am just curious.

Welcome
Looks like a capacitor, remove the tape and see if there is any writing on it

There is writing but its old and faded and unreadable. If it was a capacitor could it be for ignition noise on the radio? That's about the only think I can think of but I never saw one exactly like this before

Appears to me to be a livewell timer. Forgot what the number on it was but I had a Lowe bass boat and this looks very similar to the timer on that boat. Assuming you have a livewell.
Further research I believe it is a Rig Rite 520 timer.

Bingo.......give yourself a cigar.........I thought it was part of the radio wiring but looking closer it is wired into the live well pump switch. That switch has two positions .....manual and automatic. So the pump works off this timer in automatic?? Can you explain its operation and the timing involved. I was expecting a float switch somewhere for automatic.

Not a hundred percent sure what you are asking but yes it is activated when the switch is in auto. Don’t remember how long the intervals were, few minutes each way. Not really sure how it functions internally no engineer just a hillbilly with a boat. Glad I could help.
