The propeller shaft nut on my '71 Johnson 100hp is a little loose. What is the proper tightness? I have the factory manual but it is not stated.

If it's got a brass spacer behind the nut, I've always tightened them with a channel lock pliers and when the nut got tight I'd give it a little more to line up the cotter pin slot. Don't know of any torque spec.

It is not nylon. Metal painted black.

Thankyou sir. That is about what I did. I tightened it with a 1 1/8 in socket but used my hand to hold the prop. I assume I could not have overtightened it like that.
