Has anyone seen the Johnson ad that states, and i quote..."We run straight gas in them without oil. Run them out of the water, with no cooling. Run them around the clock, with no break, for weeks on end. And if they can't do it without complaining, they'll have to do it without the name Johnson on the side." They are supposedly now part of the Bombardier family. What is the deal with this??? Is that possible? I have never been a fan of Johnson but this sounds too good to be true. I am sure there is a huge disclaimer when you buy the engine...like DO NOT DO THE ABOVE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!! What do you guys think???

Hi, Snatcher.

Bombardier has a rep for brutal abuse during product testing.

I believe them, and I expect future Johnsons to be the best in history.

Pre-Ficht, OMC engines were excellent. The number of guys fishing in front of JohnnyRudes older than they are is ample evidence of that.

Mannufacturers many times do things to engines that we would never consider.

In my line of work, I have seen the engineers dump coolant that has been chilled to -30 into a hot engine running at WOT, just to see what joint will fail.

I believe them.

Re: What is up with the Johnson ads?????

i am so paranoid about my motor having the exact amount of oil in the gas, or not being run for 1 second out of water...Am i being way to scared, or am i being smart? I would really love to know. I flush with ears for 5-10 minutes sometimes and it wont pee for the first 3-4 minutes. It then pees real weak for the rest. As long as the temp is ok and assuming the gauge is working, i guess i am ok. If they make motors that can stand to be run a little lean and not seize, or run a little hot and not fail, that will be my next motor.

I used to work for Bomb... and trust me they do .. do things that one would be hard pressed to duplicate while running an engine across a lake or whatever body of water you might happen to be on.
The thing to remember is that just because one say's a "Miracle Oil" will allow your engine to run without water or lubricant doesn't mean that it's allright to forego regular maint and common sense while operating it.

If all that is true and please let it be. My next engine will be a Johnson again.

I hopeing they start up the Old Evinrude 4 Stroke line soon as I am looking for a 4 stroke to replace my 74 15hp 2 stroke and so far the best I have found is a Yamaha T8, I guess the Merc BigFoot 15 may also be ok, but lots of thing I do not like electric starts have no rope pull for Backup, Yamaha has no oil filter, only come with a three gal tank. Right now only 4 strokes they offer is Suzuki with a Johnson cover and paint.

Howdy, Boatist.

The Evinrude 4 strokes were Suzukis with 'Rude decals on them. What's the difference?

I would be just as happy with a Johnny-uki as a SuziRude. :D

Boatist,

Johnson will have a complete 4 stroke line from 4 to 140 in a few months, 2003 products. They will also have a complete 2 stroke line from 3.5 to 175hp. Evinrude has FICHTS from 75 through 250hp only. Both motors combined will have the most throrough line up for next year, compared to other companies.
