Some members are just getting a little over the top.
I thought Iboats was here to help other boaters and not to have people bite your head off in some posts.
Is it because the boating season is nearing an end in some areas and people are getting depressed?

It has me ready to not ever visit this site again.
I miss the old days when everyone got along.

Re: What is with the attitude lately?

Being a fairly new member only around a year or so. It seams to me that people tend to crappy when someone will ask a question that has been answered twenty times or so when a search would give them all the info they would need.

I do agree that some do get a little testy this time of year.

I have been troubled by it, too, Gary.

Could it be the weather, the economy, the time of the year?

I think it is all three, plus a few personal issues.

I feel it. I am annoyed by things that normally don't affect me, but I am also having serious economic and health problems.

Let's all make a serious effort to be more friendly, like we usually are.

I would second JB on that. If a guy has a problem or just a question, the last thing he needs is somebody preaching, insulting or talking down to him. It's always a real pleasure for me to share whatever information or experience I may have to help somebody else. After all, that's what this is all about. Good luck guys!

hey gary, i think i know which post you are talking about. i would only say that you have to remember while many people may share your thought, and it may be considered very flattering by one member, it could at the same time be taken as a slight by other members who put their best out there.

I have noticed it and am also upset by it. Particularly from a moderator perspective we can't ban someone for having a "poor attitude" or "having to have the last word." We put a lot of effort into maintaining a positive attitude around here and lately I think we've been losing the war.

We are all big boys here. I see no harm no foul. If everybody agreed with 80%of the 20% I say, you could be 60% wrong.

This is exactly why I wrote some civility guidelines for posting called "netiquette."

We all have things going on in our lives. Those issues have a way of creeping up on us and are visable in our posts. I think we all tend to forget how we come across at times, especially in written form.

Re: What is with the attitude lately?

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I am glad i'm not the only one who has noticed the change.

Some of the new members ask a question and get jumped on.
Some do not know how to search the forums. There is no such thing as a dumb question because they are new and don't realize how the forum works.

Yes,I know the economy and other factors play into this and it has greatly affected me too.

JB put it the best and i hope his health improves also.
He is one of the cornerstones of Iboats.

If we could all just make an effort to be a little less judgmental it would go a long way.
Lets try to bring back some of the old values Iboats is known for.

Re: What is with the attitude lately?

I posted a similar thread about a month or so ago about how there seems to be an increase in 'confrontational' posts. I've just learned to roll my eyes, and continue on with my life. This is still the best forum overall out there.

ah....the same one we use at another hobby forum that I admin at.....except for #8 of course..;).....we also have a card system in place.......3 red cards and it's an automatic 3 day ban......we always hope it doesn't get to that point....but there are always a select few.......hobbies are suppose to be fun for everyone......

Please remember......the search function is a hit and miss.....you must know the key words to use and some newbies(really don't like that term) may be a little slower getting use to it......

iBoats is a great community.......and hope it stays that way for a long time......Thanks to all for the great reads!!!!

Re: What is with the attitude lately?

IMO, the "help" sections are far and away the most peaceable, and it drops off from there...even more quickly as you get into the "Others" section.
The threads that seem to spiral out of control the fastest are the ones that start with a rant or plea for help with a problem that requires legal or accounting advice and the armchair experts come out of the woodwork with all sorts of opinion...well-intended, but probably ill-advised.
Then the rocks start flying....

I also think most of the threads that get out of hand are doomed from word one, and are almost predictable from reading the title....;)

It probably also has more than a little correlation to the growth in the membership....

I don't mind it. The way I see it, you put a bunch of people from around the world together and things will not always be pleasant. Everyone has there opinions and thats why they call these things forums.

Re: What is with the attitude lately?

Below is the first post I ever made here..... I looked around a few times in the past and never joined because I never was around a pc very much in the past and I owned a bayliner and could always find what I was looking for without joining. I got a new to me fishing boat and was installing the trolling motor. I had a question about it and after spending a couple hours worth of research on it came up empty and needed to join to ask, so this is how the person responds...... nothing helpful.... just a snooty why ya care about attitude.

So.... in reply to the title...... other people's would be my answer..:)

Re: What is with the attitude lately?

Overall, this site has been a tremendous help. However, I believe it was my second post where I asked what year my motor was and one of the replies was to unbolt it and let it sink.

here 's a link to that reply

I still believe this is one of the friendliest boating forums I visit. :)
