I went out and bought one of those oil pumps that slide a rubber hose down into the dipstick, Will never do that again!!! the hose popped off from too much air pressure trying to pump/force the oil through that tiny little hose and the end popped off and I got oil all over me, NEVER again!! I use it once and the last time. I have a 4.3L as most of you know and you all know where the oil pan is with the plug. What have you done to covert it, or in your own opinion what is your best way for you to drain your oil??? If you have pics that would be cool too.

On my previous boat (a Mercruiser 888, which is a Ford 5.0), I added an adapter in place of the drain plug. This adapter had a hose attached with a cap. The hose would extend through the bilge drain on the transom, and oil would drain through the hose. It was pretty slow, but worked ok... I usually let it drain over night into a container. There's also a small pump that can be attached to the hose to speed the entire process up, but I never found it necessary.

That's how my boat works, cept the hose is attached to the plug on a swivel. Pretty easy stuff! Beats spilling oil all over the bilge.

I used the pump with the plastic tubing down the dipstick tube. Mine worked great, but the oil does need to be warm.

i just warm mine up and use the Big Boy Topsider vacuum pump. very easy to use, and it contains all the oil in a sealed container until you can dispose it. pump the hand pump, release the vacuum and it starts sucking oil up. Takes about 5 min. to drain after the engine is warmed up a lil. they cost about 75 bucks i think.

Well I got lucky and found a brass gear pump from an old lift chair, hooked up hoses to it and viola, a perfect oil sucker. I can empty the crank in less than a minute. Unfortunatley to purchase a pump like this it will run you $100 or so, but after trying all the other contraptions out there it is worth it.

Bigbad's reverso looks cool though.

..my 2 cents. bought my '79 Sea Ray several years ago, rebuilt her asthetically, then set out to make her mechanically robust. Oil changes were not the previous owners main concern, so I bought from a Mercruiser dealer, a drain hose that attaches to the oil drain plug. Designed to go through the transom drain plug, I ended up grinding a lot of material in order to fit it through the plug. I still had to drain the oil in order to install the hose. As per this forum, I used heavy duty garbage bags to catch the oil and filter, then attempted to install the aforementioned hose. Like wrestling an octopus, finally recognized, the beauty of simplicity, tossed the $52 dollar hose, put the plug back in, filed the balance of my $3 box of garbage bags, and thanked the iboat gods!!

I agree!! Leshadow beatiful pic. I love the older boats myself, that what caught my eye for mine, I pull into different marinas on the water and its not the new boats that turns my head, its the older boats like ours that I stop, smile and look at, "LOOK at that one honey" or "Check that one out" I don't notice the new ones.

We put the drain kit on our 5.0. Mechanic said that "he appreciates us doing so", that it works well.

I can change my oil in no time on my 5.7. I bought a Fumoto oil drain valve with a hose on it. I leave the hose connected in the bilge. When I want to drain the oil I push the hose through the plug hole at the back of the boat where it will drain into a bucket. I push the valve/switch to the other side and it drains. No muss, no fuss as they say. Greatest thing I ever did on my boat.
