Re: what keeps this from getting loose?
by having it come loose am i screwed and have to go through the whole assembly process again.?
I haven't rebuilt one in a couple of years now, but as I recall while only tightened by hand, there is still enough pressure on it so it shouldn't move by bumping it. If it did, then it probably wasn't right to begin with. That big oring holds it from turning, but there is also nothing to cause it to turn.
I would suggest you go thru the rolling torque procedure again. While 2-4 inch pounds isn't much, make sure to turn the shaft and set the torque wrench to zero before you tighten that ring. It will take more that 2-4 inch pounds to turn the shafts and gears alone without any preload. What you have to do is find out what the rolling torque is without any pressure on that nut, then as you increase the pressure you will then see an increase of 2 to 4 inch pounds.
