What kind of boat would I need to troll/dropline

Hello again. I have another post going about how I'll be saltwater fishing for the next few years. I've posted this one to get some information about ocean worthy boats. I'm working on a civil engineering degree up in tennessee right now. I'm planning on moving to a coast some where once I graduate and buying a recreational fishing boat as soon as I am financially able. Right now I have no idea how much I might expect to spend on this as well as how much it will cost to maintain, insure, and operate. I've been researching what kind of boat I will need and how much it will cost but I'm not finding any concrete answers.

I would like to be able to safely go out into deep waters and troll/dropline for all sorts of fish. I'm also interested in crab traps and perhaps shallow diving(I know I need licensing and gear for this but that's about all I know about it.).

I've seen boats that appear to be what I want priced anywhere from 25 thousand to several hundred thousand dollars.

Around 24 foot deep V hull and i would go with twin 200 4 strokes. One to troll and 2 for speed and getting over the swells, and having 2 engines betters ur chance of getting home if one engine should go down. Especially 3 to 10 miles off the coast.

Thanks for the information. Would a boat like that run any serious risk of capsizing in a mild storm(Say I was about 10 miles out)? In florida small storms blow up almost every evening during summer. It seems to fit the size restrictions as I understand them regarding haul behind trailers.

Any models or brands you prefer?

I am on the west coast and fish up to 20 miles out.

Get a good Marine VHF radio- I have a Uniden Solara DSC White VHF Radio and hook my GPS to it

Check into Sea-tow, they are the water AAA

The wind here picks up around 1 PM every day and at about 3 PM 30 foot boats are not fun.

Always check and monitor the weather

I go out early in the morning and make sure I am back inside of protected waters by 2 PM.

Nice boats for that kind of money, I have been looking for a boat too, the ones that I like are the Center Console type

I am leaning towards the Sailfish 2360 CC, http://www.sailfishboats.com/boats.cfm?boat=21 Because I want to fish! no cabin, small head and not much more, but a Lot of Deck space.
