What kind of bondo?

I just picked up a 14' Alumacraft which had a leak around some, one, just don't know how many rivits. There is a patch 6"x10" covering big area, I am not sure but it looks like it may have just been one but it seemes it pissed off one of it's previous enough to go nuts with such a big patch.
It has several kinds of sealents stuck to it trying to fix this problem.
I can get all of them off except this red crap that looks like bondo, when I use a wire wheel on a grinder it just melts and spreads. It also smells like iodine (for cuts).
I also tried to sand it but it clooged the paper almost imediately.
Any sugestions would be greatfuly appreciated.

On a side not this boat has a removable bow top ( aluminum ), I have not seen anything like this but it's not like I am anykind of expert either. Is this a common option?

Re: What kind of bondo?

Might just be the PO found some old red lead bottom paint and slathered it on. Get a small can of paint remover and see if that doesn't get it off. When you get it all clean and shiney this is what you'll need to apply to stop those leaks:http://www.marinetex.com/PRODUCT PAGE_files/All Gluvit/gluvit prod in.htm

Don't have the foggiest idea concerning the top thing - maybe a pic would help.

It isn't paint.

The way this stuff is sticking to the boat I have come to the conclusion that when I find out what it is I should give it some concideration to using it again.

bondo drys hard and sands easily, its designed to be sanded, so it cant be bondo, as to what it is, i have no idea

For aluminum boat leaks at the rivets and seams use Gluv-it. It actually retains a bit of flexibility and is the choice sealant for aluminum. Marine tex dries hard as a rock and will crack

I will be using Gluv-it but I am still working at taking this stuff off.
I would post a picture but it looks like bondo, very red and smells like iodine when wire brushing it off, or I should say melting it off barely.
