Absolutely. I have used David Vizard's small block Chevy book for my marine Chevies - basically all the same as far as the core process.

i don't know if you could just drop an auto engine in it or not, or if it can even be done, But if you had a runnign auto 5.0 you could probably get the marine engine running from the parts, Leaving a motor sit out and collect rain/dirt/bugs/ god knows what else and then trying to fix it is probably not a good idea. Ther's no telling what is in there, and if you don't know what's in it, you can't get it out. Even if you did get it running, it would take a long time to gain the confidence to call it "reliable". You just never know.

If memory serves me correctly the intake manifold bolt spread is 7 1/2 for a 302 and 8 1/2 for a 351
