Transom clamp & float bowl look like Gale but the pull rope knob doesn't. Why don't you examine the data plate I think that I see between the transom clamps and tell us.

It is a 5hp Gale-built motor from the late 1940's. Sold under a number of brand names such as Sea King, Sea Bee, Hiawatha, etc.

Its not a moter, its an outboard motor. Definately an Evinrude, with the lower cowls missing.

There should be a plate on the transom bracket, secured with rivets. If its missing there should be a small quarter sized silver plug on the side of the motor. Find the plug and give is the number on the plug and we'll give you manufacturer, date of manufacture, spark plug type, HP, etc, etc.

Already told him, it is a late 1940's Gale. 1947-ish. The serial number plug can be seen in the picture, just below the carburetor. It might be interesting to know what it says, if the model is on it. And then again it might be only a serial number, pretty meaningless.
