Hi,
I have a 4 stroke merc 2004 60 hp. Is there any special brand of oil i should use when doing an oil change? Synthetic work? or should I use what the factory recommends? How about the lower end how often should that oil be changed?

I have ordered a manual but it is not here yet. Any ideas where to find the specs and for my motor online so I can order ax extra water pump and impeller.

thanks,

Re: What kind of oil?

Go to Mercurymarine web site and click on Parts Express. You will need your engine serial number. Enter it and you can view the parts list for your motor. Lower unit oil should be changed at the end of every season. If you boat year-round, change it once a year. That gives you an opportunity to see if there is any water making its way inside. If so, you have an issue that needs to be addressed. Replace "O" rings on the drain and vent plugs when you change the lower unit oil. Use the oil recommended by Mercury. It is specified in your Owners manual.

Thank you,
I went there yesterday and could not find the parts express link. It says coming soon Feb 2008.
Also I do not have an owners manual.
