I finally bought my first boat and now I need a little help with a paint question. I have read most of the post here and really enjoy all the tech help that you all share with each other. Im sure Ill have a ton of questions about various things in the future but for now its just about paint. The boat has a small damaged spot in the hull that I need to fix but it is covered with some kind of textured paint all the way around the boat. I think its for the water line. I have read a lot about bottom paint bout didnt see any that is textured.<br /> Does anyone know what the best paint to use for this is? <br /><br />That aint paint! Thats a chunk missing outta your boat!!! You have some work to do before painting. Cant really tell what kind of paint (gray?) that is. Could be bottom paint, its not always textured. Only textured paint I've ever seen is bottom coat. If you are going to be leaving the boat in water for 4-days or more at a time, a barrier coat and/or bottom paint is a good idea. If you will be trailering the boat (day or weekend use) you dont really need bottom coat. You can contact the folks at Interlux and ask them to send you a copy of their Boat Painting Guide. Should be helpful for painting any parts of the boat. While youre waiting on deliver you can do something about the missing piece of your boat.
