Usually a boat has a prop on it. So you try that one out and buy a new one based the old one.
I guess you will run a 17 or a 19. See if you can try a loaner if you agree to buy a new prop. Be sure to have the shop install it.
you need a prop that will let your engine run in it's recommended rpm range. a guess is 4200 to 4600 rpm. you can find this info online. small pitch= higher rpm. New to boating so I would use the softer prop. That will do less damage to your boat when you hit things. Yes you may ruin the prop. After you learn boating and the area you can buy the SST prop for $300 more and go 2 mph faster. I would recommend a safe boating course and that you take an experienced boater with you the first couple of times. wife,girlfriends,kids, buddies come after you learn how to not kill them.
