I've used Roundup for years with good results. Is there a product that works the same for less money? Sprayed today and I'm about out. Roundup is about $100 a gal. here.

The off brands work, but usually require a second application. So, if you pay half the cost and use twice as much, what have you really saved?

Find someplace online that sells it. We pay around $35 a gallon here.

You two are mixing the product value wise. At $100 per gallon that's the good stuff at like 41% concentrate and it takes a lot less to make a gallon of product, depending on what you are spraying. You are not going to get that for $35 anywhere it's mis priced.
The advantage to roundup is that you can plant again is like 7 days.
If you don't need that feature you are paying too much for the product. It has other features to like non leaching and such but many people are using it when a permanent killer which is much cheaper is the better buy.

What is the best poison for evergreen trees? They are about 25-30 ft tall... I have a couple in front I want to kill before I cut them down. Takes a lot less time to dry them out if they are dead standing up. Then I can cut them up for firewood...

Get a long 1/4" drill, 8" or more, then drill in at a downward angle just about the ground level as far as you can into the trunk of the tree.
Put some weed killer ( I like that 41% concentrate roundup myself) in those holes and let it seep into the tree system. You can refill if you want but with the roundup you should not have to. It will get to the roots in a hurry and kill them and you will see the tree die pretty quick.

Try dissolved rock salt in water works pretty well. Just remember weeds are all mostly a result of air born migration from nearby yards and or fields

Use some Pramitol and forget about spraying for awhile.

I have used this for years for driveways and side walk segment s that get grass in them. And it's relatively nontoxic and safe to handle.

And it works extremely well, Not to mention CHEAP

Glyphosate is glyphosate, so the generics are exactly the same as Roundup. Just make sure they contain a proper "surficant". Roundup from Walmart, Home Depot, etc, is usually pretty watered down.

Get 41% glyphosate Drexel "Imitator Plus" at Rural King, for $37.50/gal. (got some on sale last spring for $20). This, of course will be diluted down wtih water, to the proper mix.

Try copper sulphite, I think it's called.

Drill the biggest deapest hole you can at the base going into the root area, and pour it in, cork it off and watch death set in!!!

Dawn dish washing liquid- mixed strong with warm water in a garden sprayer will kill grass and weeds pretty quickly. I used to use it for Kudzu so that i could knock it down with the mower. Now i only have grass- should have left the kudzu and been able to fish a lot more.

thats what i was going to say, you can use rock salt, and you can overload them with nitragen (fertilzer) the same way

oh and for weeds try the propane weed torch you dont have to worry about wind drift killing anything around the weeds and the torch is pretty cheap

Re: What kind of weed killer?

mschr is exactly correct. Glyphosate is Glyphosate. The generics will cost you about half of the Monsanto product. What you are missing in the generics is the proprietary surfactants that Monsanto has . You can add surfactant to the generics and get the same results. I use about 60 gallons of Glyphosate annually and have not bought a Monsanto Glyphosate in over 5 years. Generics work just fine.

Doug, just girdle the trees. chainsaw a two inch band just through the cambium and you'll stop the water flow and the trees will dry and die.

Are you adding a surfactant? If so, what? I have been using 50.2% Glyphosate Roundup.
