Handy panel is just a 2'x4' or 4'x4' piece of plywood in your selected thickness. At Menards you will find them near the plywood end of the store in the isle with pegboard and the likes.
ok thanks for that info, do i need to make sure its made for exterior or any 3/4" plywood will do as long as its sealed?

I have no idea which StarCraft model you have other than it's 14' so I'm not going to do any guessing on it. How wide is the transom?

I just finished a 14' RichLine row boat that the transom is 56" wide so a 4' handy panel would not work. This older tin boat also had a transom that was built and mounted in 2 pcs., one inside and one outside. The inside pcs. fit into a slot on the ends and had to be 3/4" to fit. The 2 pcs are then sealed and thru bolted to each other.

I did you WOG "Old Timers Recipe" on it to seal the wood. It works very well, is easy to apply and is very cost effective. Also this 14" old tin is rated up to a 35hp.
Here's what it looked like.

As I said in my original post, You CAN just use the 2x12 and Just Paint it with Rustoleum Oil Based Paint and It WILL last for Several Years IF you keep the boat covered when not in use AND you always PreDrill any holes and Coat the Holes and the Hardware with a Good Marine Sealant i.e. 3M 4200. You Don't HAVE to use Plywood and the Chemicals. It's just what MOST of the members use and recommend. It IS your boat and you CAN do what ever you want to do and whatever you see fit.:D;)

Use water proof glue, Tite Bond 3 or something like it.

On one of the boats I have I used a 2 x 10 of Douglas Fir. Have run it with a 10hp and an 18hp. Sealed it with Spar Varnish. Works great.

No, Red Cedar is a very weak wood.

You have a couple of options, you can go cheap or all out, both methods will work. Using high end plywood with epoxy is the best, using an unpainted 2x12 will work too, just not as long. You may get 5-10 years out of a 2x12, and 20+ out of doing it in a better way.

I would refer you back to Post #4. If you really want to ensure the wood is sealed really well.
