What outdrive do you have, 270? All the older volvos take motor oil. Straight 30.

2.25 - 2.75 quarts. Buy a pump at your local marine supply to pump the oil up into the drain hole on the bottom of the drive (with upper plug/dipstick removed). Fill to operating range by checking with dipstick. Once level is where you want it, install dipstick, remove pump from lower and replace drain plug. Can be a little messy.:)

You should replace the orings on the drain plug and dip stick.

Pretty simple proceedure really.

Good Luck!!

you might need to get the model/serial number from the drive itself

Go to http://www.volvo.com/volvopenta/glo...s_service/oil_information/oil_information.htm

and "rightclick/save as" the following link for http://www.volvo.com/internet/vebiz...9-8342-1a8d54f0f60a&area=VolvoCom+Volvo+Penta

It should indicate what yours uses...

Two things,
1. What is the engine model number
2. What is the numbers on the tag circled below.

That top screw in the cover is actually a dipstick for the gear lube oil level
and the picture below is a screw that holds the bearing carrier in the drive, not a fill screw.
