I went to Walmart to get lube for my Stringer and didn't like anything they had available. Everything I saw was for Merc. I'm new to this so I wanted to ask the question before I put any in it. Thanks Eric.

Pretty sure OMC type C is just 80 weight lower unit lube. Don't think there's anything particularily OMC about it. Would love to hear if I'm wrong.

I've put 80 weight lower unit lube in mine for the past couple years without any hint of metal shavings or wear.

80W90 gear oil in all 3 drive compartments of an 800 series
anything for a Mercruiser outdrive will be fine in it

and 30 wt, 80W90, 85W140 or any heavy oil in the tilt clutch- or some pack it with grease

If it's an electric shift make sure you use only Type-C or OMC Premium Blend oil in the lower gearcase! You can use regular gear oil in the upper and intermediate.

If it's an electric shift .

it's not, per his signature

I made some videos the other day doing a walkaround and pointing out some mtc points on the 800 series....kinda unrehearsed, but hope they'll help someone. I have more of disassembling the 800, but youtube keeps aborting my uploads ...more soon

I fancy myself an expert on these drives. For all non electric shift I use mercruiser or omc High preformance. (the green)

for ecectric shift I use merc or omc premium

THE ONLY THING TO REMEMBER WITH ELECTRIC SHIFT DRIVES IS TO MAKE SURE YOU USE AN OIL THAT IS NON CONDUCTIVE. In most of those the insulation on the wires are worn if you were to put something in there that was conductive it would be lites out.

Thanks for the videos.
I have a manual but the video is certainly easier to learn from.

Use 80/90 wt and you can get it anywhere.
