What made epoxy do this?

Hey everyone. I am in the process of replacing my Starcraft transom. I have applied two coats of epoxy from US Composites with a 3 to 1 ratio. I waited 24 hours between each coat, in fact 48 hours between each coat because I applied to one side, let it dry 24 then flipped it over to do the other side each time. Yesterday morning I applied the last coat on the rear side, it looked great for about 6 hours or so. Then it got an orange peel look to it and felt oily to the touch. The orange peel look wasnt bad but enough to take away the shiny gloss. This morning it still felt oily, I wiped it down with a clean rag and it still doesnt look at shiny glossy as the other side. Could someone tell me what went wrong?
Thanks

I might add, I did this under an open shed. Yesterday morning it was about 72 degrees and humid. Was cloudy with no sun for about 4 hours.

Amine blush, you need to get that epoxied wood out in the sun and let it heat up and it'll cure out right. Quite a few folks have had this problem.

Will get it out as soon as the sun comes out of clouds. Thanks. Had me worried.

Quick question. Did I harm it in anyway by wiping it down this morning? Will it still cure okay or should I apply another coat in the sunshine today?

Let it dry first before you add another coat. Another coat will not do more.

Are you going to paint this or just install this? Will it be exposed to sun light? If so then you will need to coat it with about 3 coats of marine varnish to get some UV protection. Then it will also look like glass when you are done.

Wasnt going to paint it. The only part that would be exposed to any light would be about 6 lateral inches way back under the splashwell. No direct sunlight at all. After I let it dry in the sun today, should I let it cure overnight before I install it back in the boat or do you think it would be safe to slide it in and start fastening things down?

It should get smooth and dry sometime today, when it's smooth and dry you can do whatever you want with it.
