Hi folks,

Can someone please tell me what specific model I have. I believe it's a 1979 4 HP Johnson with internal tank. I am just trying to determine if it is a long or standard shaft:

Model: 4W79D

Serial: C8046538

Thanks..

And when trying to determine this, where should I measure the shaft from?

If your motor has what's shown as part #29 above the gear case in the diagram below, it's a "long" shaft, otherwise it's a "short" shaft.

The model number you gave is for a short shaft. But that doesn't mean that somebody hasn't converted it to long. That is unlikely, since it is the weedless model.

Ok, thanks.. I ask because I might be trading it for a longshaft and I am worried that it might be too long for my transom based on where the kicker mount is positioned. The 4 hp is not working out as a troller... too small on my 16.5'

The 70 Evinrude is running fine, btw...
