Hello all, I have a 15' 1974 National Boat Corp Fiberglass open bow "Tri Hull".
It currently has a good running 1974 Chrysler 55HP motor. My top speed with the Chrysler is in the area of 35mph.

I just got a great running Suzuki DT65. I don't know much about the DT65, is it a dependable motor? Is the DT65 easy to repair? What does the DT65 weigh? How much faster will my boat go with the DT65?

Thanks for your help.

When you say fast, what exactly do you mean? The motor was on a 19' HEAVY *** Pontoon Boat. My little 15' fiberglass boat, is so light on the single axle trailer, I can lift the tongue and pull the boat around fairly easy. I'm an average 165lb person not a great big he man. What prop would you recommend for my boat?

I use the boat for "Jump Fishing" Striper's on Western US lakes. It is a sit and watch for diving gull's, and haul *** to that spot type of fishing.

My biggest fear with the Suzy is an ignition failure. Looks to me like a new CD unit would cost more than the motor is worth. Where can I find parts?

Well I guess if the CDi gives up on me I should go get a lottery ticket.:p I'd need to hit the lottery to get a new one.

If you are so concerned about this non issue then look for a used spare on EBAY and keep it on the shelf. No I dont have a way to test it except to run it.

Re: What Motor is better

The motor runs but not sure how well. It is a 1980 65HP 2 cylinder. It had a bad prop shaft seal, damaged by an incorrect prop washer. I figure someone tried sticking a 1985 and up prop on it. It seems ANY type of parts are very hard to find for this motor. I cannot find a prop for a 1980 ANYWHERE not even Browns Point.

I'm only paying $250 for the motor, that is what the lower unit re-seal cost. Being it is a 2 cylinder I don't see how it can be much better than the old Chrysler 55 horse. I think I'll most likely sell it for what I paid, or part it out on e-bay.

I'm not that concerned. Just tried to make a joke, I guess some are too uptight to tell that.
