I just picked this up at a yard sale from an owner who had no idea what it was. Any identifying decals had been sprayed over long ago with aluminum paint and the only numbers i can find on it say 462-2408 on the front and 462-36737 on the cylinder.
Oh, and it actually runs great. not a bad buy for $10!

Found this on the AOMCI webpage. If I wasn't in such a hurry, I coulda probably found a bit more for ya, but this might give you a base to start from. BTW, ten bucks ain't a bad deal for any outboard... Well except maybe a merc or a force:D

That pointy tiller handle reminds me of Scott-Atwater.

It reminds you of a Scott-Atwater cause it is a Scott, made for Champion Outboard Motors and badged as such. Probably a 3.6 hp from the early to mid-40's. Basically the same motor as the Firestone pictured in this thread, but with a different gas tank. I'm real fond of the Champion Blue Ribbon singles, made in the late 40's...by then Champion was building their own product. A real find for $10, keep it and run it at 16:1 mix...don't go any leaner or you could overheat it. Don't loan it out either...it will surely come home seized as most folks only know the modern 50:1 mix and that's not enough lube juice for that old Scott.

Ahh! A 3.6 Firestone, built by Scott Attwater! The very powerplant that led to my demise! Oh, it started a career in marine mechanics that has spanned 22 years. I was given a 3.6 Firestone as a lad of 12 or so by a guy down the road, possibly to get me to quit pestering him all the time.

Oh, how my mother was unhappy! Her rain barrels used to collect water for her flowers were fouled with a thick coating of oily exhaust residue! How I learned how to clean a set of points, using a claw hammer to rap on the end of the crankshaft to free it from the taper. I could keep it running well in the barrel, then I would haul it dwon the hill in a wheelbarrow to my grandmas high sided aluminum boat. Then I would get it running, make it about 200 yards from the dock, and it would die. No doubt the oars were left ashore. At least once I had to jump over and swim it in.:)

Great! Thanks for the info. Any good sources on where I could find some more information on this motor? A thorough google search on Champion outboards hasn't really gotten me anywhere and it seems the frequently referred to championoutboards.com website is no longer around. I'd love to find pics of what this motor was originally supposed to look like along with some possible sources for parts (it seems the impeller has suddenly stopped working)
