Well said and yeah with the cost of diesel or marine engine being what they are the extra cost of Quicksilver over regular oil means nothing to me when changing the oil ONLY ONCE a year.

Looks like the OP bagged on his thread leaving us here to duke it out.

Lou C, given the figure you threw out about 50 hrs of usage per year and seems about right. In your car just loafing down the road, lets say an average of 60 MPH ( I know its less but lets just call it that) thats 3000 miles we just traveled at pretty much full throttle and subjected our oil to on our boat.
This load pounds our main and crank bearings and increases oil temps, far more then our car engine will. This is what breaks down engine oil additives leading to engine wear.
Knowing all this, I use Marine based oil and now that I really thought about it? Will do an oil change twice a year, it really does not cost all that much.
Member Waterman, he might not have bagged out on us, His head is probably reeling with an overload of info.

NOT one engine marinizer recommended car based oils. They all recommend something you would not be using in a car.

See #4 on Mercs oil specs
1. Mercury/Quicksilver 25W-40 Synthetic Blend, NMMA FC-W-rated 4-cycle MerCruiser oil
2. Mercury/Quicksilver 25W-40, NMMA FC-W-rated 4-cycle MerCruiser oil
3. Other recognized brands of NMMA FC-W-rated 4-cycle oils
4. A good-grade, straight-weight detergent automotive oil according to the last row of the operating chart below.

Religion, Politics, Motor Oil. All things that should not be discussed in public..... You can keep on googleing and asking until you find evidence that supports what you really want to do. If it makes you sleep better at night buy the marine stuff.
