Look for an Evinrude or Johnson, 90-115 hp, mid 1980's or newer.

And on the water, 35-40 mph is a lot, compared to 22.

If it has no controls you'll be sticking more bucks into it.

well since you've already bought the motor this comes too late, but you usually want no less than 75% of the max rating. However, 150 sounds mighty high for a 17' boat but that depends on the hull. I run a 70 on a 17' that's set up like a "fish and ski" (dual console bay boat hull) and that's all the power it needs.

Thanks for input home cooking the 50 was way small but i wanted to go fishing this summer after all my work rebuilding boat and it was 80 bux need i say more. As for the 125 i meant 120 (rvo v4) is 3 times heavier and when im up front the boat is more stable in rough water also runs out perfict about 43 mph and not bad for a 1400 lb fiberglass boat (without motor)
