HI every one this is my first post so just checking im signed in first question. i have a 2002 tohatsu 18 hp we in new zealand have a choice of 96 or 91 i have been using 96 i have even used aviation fuel thought it time to ask the experts thanks.
Knowing your model would help. Year of manufacture is unimportant in identifying the motor. Tohatsu has made both 2- and 4- stroke 18 hp motors. In the States, only 4-strokes have been available for several years, but in other areas, 2-strokes are still available.
Fuel requirement information is in your owner's manual. For either engine, the R+M/2 octane (that's the average of the Research and Motor numbers, BTW) should be at least 87. That's typically a Research octane of 91. No more than 10% ethanol, no more than 5% methanol. Preferably no alcohol at all.
thanks pvanv for the link as i brought motor without manuel. It is a two stroke it seems like i have been using 96 when i should have been on 91 thanks.
