What oil to run?

What type of oil should I run in an older cabin cruiser no idea of hours single engine 318 w/ velvet drive transmission.<br /><br />Thanks

Sounds like SAE 40 to me .The manual probably calls for sae30.I would stay away from the synthetics for an older motor because you probably have a small oil leak somewhere and the use of synthetic WILL make it worse.Charlie

40w fine, 30w if ya can't find it. Just stick to straight weights.
