What oil weight?

Just bought a 92 Lowe deck boat with a 3 liter H. O. (OMC) GM 4 banger. Has fresh engine, (old one wasn't winterized and was ruined). I see on the forums that Merc says use 25W40 in it's engins. What would be the proper oil for this OMC rig? Where would you get 25W40? I have never seen it on the shelf.

Well back when they were still in business OMC specified straight 30 for their engines. I use Chevron Delo 400 straight 30. No reason why you couldn't use the Merc 25/40 if you can get it easily. I use the Merc High Performance gear lube in my Cobra and it likes it just fine!

Like Lou said OMC specified 30 wght. I use Pennzoil marine HD30 in my '89 4.3. Boat engines operate under alot different conditions that cars and it was my understanding that the single grades held up better
