Probably a seriously embarrassingly stupid question, obviously a total newb to stern drives.
Just bought a 1988 Dynasty 190 Fish and Ski. decent cosmetically (just the outside paint is faded - will be painted when everything else is done)
I do have a leak in my bilge area and as I really like the ride, power, room etc, will be something I invest some time and money into. Hoping it does not need transom repair, but if it does, it does and will be repaired.
I was looking thru a service manual that came with it and was referencing a few different out drives - alpha 1, alpha 2 and something else, i forget off the top of my head. How do I determine what is on my boat ?
Sorry so stupid. Any info appreciated. I will be trying to educate myself here over the next few weeks so while my wife says I am always stupid, hopefully I will not be asking such silly questions soon

Alpha One Generation 1 went about 1984-1990, then Alpha One Generation 2 1990 til now. Unless repowered (doubtful), the Gen 1 is what you'd have. Pics would help the experts here.

Year and make/model of boat has very little if any bearing on what your power package is. Most boats can have anything in a given year.

Pictures work really well (you know that whole thousand words thing).

most mfg. put their logo on the drive and/or the engine. ie. mercruiser, volvo, omc, etc.

agreed, do the picture thing. someone will likely id it asap...

Re: what out drive do I have ?

Alot of those had the 4.3 V-6 and mercruiser drive. Open the engine compartment and look on the spark arrestor or valve cover. Should say on the drive if it's a mercruiser, their black. Pics would indeed help but your going to have to get the serial #s for the drive and engine anyway so start looking for the Merc tag on engine and #s on drive. Get a Merc manual too, very helpful pretty much a must if your going to learn and work on your boat. Good Luck

The easy way to ID an Alpha drive is to note the location of the trim cylinders mounting location.
