ok here goes just purchased a 1978 28' harris flote bote pontoon. it has the 120 hp 2.5 gm motor that runs as good as a new one from what little i have ran it. it is as quiet as a church mouse. but my impeller is bad in the outdrive and i cant find a tag or number on it anyplace. so i have no idea what it is to order the impeller kit. i think its either a electric shift or hydralic. has no cables going to it that i can find but it also has no hydralic lines either. but the only electric shift i can find was up to 1977 cant find one for 1978. if nobody has a clue i can post pics of it tomorrow then try from there. thanks and happy boating

Should be a 400 if its a 78. Either way I think the impeller kit should be the same.

Another way to tell is to put it in gear with the key off, if the prop turns freely its electric, if it shifts in gear its mechanical/hydraulic assist.

Looked at your pics again, yours looks like a 400 style intermediate with an electric shift lower.

Electric shift stringer for sure. I think the 400's, 800's, and Electric shifts all shared the same upper gearcase/ intermediate housing. The impeller is a pain to replace, or so I think. You can get impeller kits on eBay for about 25 bucks. Search "OMC Stringer Impeller". I'm pretty sure they sell the impeller here on Iboats, but I haven't checked yet. Good luck with it.

Also, the model/serial number tag is attached to the upper gearcase, under the starboard side pivot cap.
