Hi, I need an opinion on what outdrive i should run. My boat is a 1986 searay seville 17' bowrider. I am doing a complete repower on it I am also installing a new floor and interior and need a little guidance on outdrive i should use. I currently have a 302 ford and a aq200 outdrive that is running. This unit does not have any power trim on it and am wondering if i shouldn't look for pre alpha or alpha as it does have power trim. Of the 3 of them which one would be the better choice, Strength and Feature wise. I realize i am talking about some old technology here but i don't have the cash to buy new so i will need something in my price range.

rOat,
Have you cosidered a newer Volvo drive instead?...
or a retro-fit of your current drive? To change to an alpha drive is going to entail a number of modifications to the transom, motor mounts, etc.,plus you still have to buy the hydraulic pump, lines, and associated wiring and controls...plus, you say your drive is running...I wouldn't spend your money on something you don't need...
regards,
markvictor

Your site addy is linked to others that sell product and that is not allowed here, so I've removed your link.
That's called random censorship when right down the list is a post titled parts links with active links to retailers...I don't sell didley squat...but your the boss...

If it's a 1986 package, you have a 280 drive (the 200 was in the 60's). The 280 was available with or without hyd trim. They are a very strong unit.

If there is nothing wrong with it, why not try and search around the boneyards for a trim kit (280T)? It'll save you messing about with bellhousings and transom modifications.

Ditto on Danaruna's suggestions... A bit of a needle in a haystack, but look for one first. I am kicking myself for passing on a wrecked boat last year that had the "T" volvo setup.. the whole boat was $600 and had a running engine.
