What outdrive's are matable with an 89 model year?

Looking for a new outdrive, curious as to what year range I can be looking for.

I have an 89 4.3 175hp Merc with the Alpha One... found a '94, but will that work?

Nope......
You need an Alpha 1 Generation 1....
Most likely with a 1:84 ratio......You need to get your serial # to be sure......
A gen 2 will not work........
The year is irrelevant......
The serial # is......
Merc. went from Gen 1 to gen 2 around '91....

The Alpha 1s,+ Most of the Pre-Alphas are Interchangable........

The Alpha 1, Gen.IIs are Not........
