What paint to use

I have a 1973 Starcraft 21 ft Chieftan, that I am restoring and I an looking for any recommendations on what paint I can use for above and below the waterline (one paint). The boat has been completely stripped. I am on a tight budget and want to keep cost down ,the boat will be trailer-ed.I have been told I need to use two different types of paint.(one for above and one for below)

Alot depend on how much time the boat will spend in the water. Several days at a time or moored I would use marine bottom paint. If it's in and out of the water daily I don't think it will be as much as concern. Do a search in the resto section. Several members (myself included) used rustoleum professional in the gallon or quart can. Runs about $26 a gallon. I spent about $250 in paint and supplies to paint my 16'. I haven't heard any complaints yet as far as durabilty but it is not near as hard as a 2 part urethane. Will the boat be in salt water? I don't think I would use the rustoleum on a salt water boat.

The boat will only be in fresh water and would only be in the water 7 days at most at any one time

Rustoleum also make a marine paint. Have never seen it other than the website.

When I painted my bow rider I used Interlux one part polyurethene and painted entire boat (top and bottom).
I then put a coat of Interlux Brightside bottom paint over the other.
This bottom paint is a very hard bottom paint and is made specifically for trailered boats.

I've never done it myself but from what I've read Awlgrip is the best.

I have seen Rustoleum Marine at my local Lowes.

A great benefit to tinny's is that the worst that is probably going to happen is the paint scrapes off the keel. In that case "So what" it's metal and will still be ok. I was trying to do mine on budget as well. Sometimes that approach ends up costing more in the end, and sometimes it is a great savings. Time will tell. So far I am happy with the rustoleum.
