I have a 1981 all family charger 16' V bottom runabout. I believe it is about 6' wide.
It has a mercruiser 3.0 140 hp with an alpha 1 outdrive.

I dont know what prop it is that I have and it wasnt on the boat. The guy just handed it to me, so I am wondering if it was even for this boat. I cant find any marks on it other than these numbers (48-79572-17).

We will probably have about 4 people in it running on smaller lakes. maybe a cooler and possibly toe tubes.

My Questions are: What prop is this? 17? what prop should I have on it as a best overall use? what is the wide open RPM for this older 81 3.0? other places on the web have said 4400 - 4800 for newer engines.

I just tried it on water today but did not force it to wide open because this is the first time it has been out in 8 years. I did have it to around 3300-3500 and right at 20mph.

Looks like this was asked here on iboats a few years ago:

Now we need some essential data if you can't find any reference to what this boat started with. Fill in data from this form http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=287818.

Age of the engine doesn't restrict what it can still do today... same max rpm at WOT (wide open throttle). if the engine is not working properly, then it shouldn't be on the water as it will put you in risk of many issues you cannot control.

Others may be familiar with the boat/motor you list and might be able to assist.

Good luck!

The engine is running right. I just wasnt ready to go for full throttle yet.
