what prop to use for trihull?

have a 1974 Rinkerbuilt trihull (15 ft) with a 50 horse Johnson...it needs a new prop and need some opinions since I'm new to this........the boat is heavy and kind of a plow..will be used for occasional water skiing but also high speed runs on larger lakes (including great lakes)...any advice?..........thanks

Top speed and waterskiing are not do-able with one prop.
Either one or the other. Having said that you might try a 19P for speed and a 15P for skiing. As always you really need a tach and your WOT (wide open throttle) RPM to start do correct prop selection.

If you want the quick and dirty answer...

Those came stock with a 13 1/4" x 15" straight pitch aluminum props. They ran adequately for all around use with your size boat.

Those loop charged 50's lacked low end torque, so it wasn't common to see them pull a 17", or bigger without being dogs out of the hole.

Of course they could go a long way on a tank of gas.

Again, the best answer is for you to do some fact finding and add it to your post.
