What RPM

I've got a 76 SeaRay 22 foot with a 351 Windsor Ford V8 with a 600 cfm 4 bl 235 hp ... the boat tops out at 34 mph on GPS ! Shouldn't this boat go faster than this ? I'm running 3500 rpm at full out ... but I don't think this is right ... cuz it sounds like it is SCREAMING !!! When the 4 bl opens up it don't go any faster ... it just makes more noise . I've never had a V8 boat before , but my little 16.5 Dorel 120hp would walk all over this one ... and my freinds 29 foot Bayliner with a 350 chev will do 44mph . The boat comes out of the hole GREAT .... Any help would be great ... Oh ya the out drive is a OMC .

My 1983 22.5 searay would do 34 as well. It had a 305 chev. (merc) with a 2 bl. carb / alpha leg. At WOT it was about 4300 rpm. It sounds like your tach. is wrong.

the ford motors do turn less rpm at w.o.t than the chevs,if i remember right the ford 302 and 351 was 3800 rpm max.also remember that the 235 is actually around 205 at the prop.and your searay is a big heavy boat .i think you are close to its potential.
