I have a good running 1966 Johnson V4ML-12M and I am unsure what to do with it. it run good and has plenty of power (never failed me). it is currently attached to a boat that will soon meet its demise at the land fill.
I was wondering if I should try and sell it whole (most people will get scared of shipping costs), tear it down and sell parts on ebay, or remove all ferrous metal and sell as scrap aluminum. I dont have room to store a complete motor so that's not an option.

any advice guys?

If the price is right , you should not have any problem selling it.

Make certain that you are selling the whole motor and that the prospective buyer knows that it is comlete. By that, I mean include all wiring, instruments, remote control ......everything. That stuff is worth as much as the whole rest of the motor.

Is that the boat that will meet its demise?? Looks like a really nice rig that has considerable value!! Do not scrape or part out. Run an ad in craigslist...you'll find a buyer. If you're unsure how to price it (as am I), just ask for offers.

I would sell the entire rig. There are plenty of people that are into restoring older boats. As for the price that is up to you. I would check out the prices on Craig's list and sleeze bay see what is comparable. If you just want it gone low ball the price there are always people looking for a good deal.

Old fiberglass runabouts are a dime a dozen, however that is a particularly uniquely styled one that I think has a lot of potential. I'd sell that rig whole. Heck I might even try to get a $1000 for it.

Re: what should I do with it?

I bought the whole works 2 years ago for $600 with a bad transom. I fixed that and is as solid as a rock. it just doesn't work well for us as a fishing boat and the boys don't care for tubing. plus loading it is tricky due to the hull and trailer design.

I figure the motor is worth $0.60-0.80/lb as scrap or I see lower units online selling for ~ $400

I honestly don't know what to do. I just need it gone

Around here that would be listed for $800 to $1,200. If it is in reasonable shape.

Trailer = $200 to300 Motor w/ controls = 400 to 600 depending Plus boat and extras
