This on a 1999 bowrider with a 4.3 mercruiser. Well there was a bad rod bearing in my motor and they said the motor was originally out of a vehicle. What tells it is out of a vehicle? They said the motor was pretty tired and wanted to put in new. The pistons and clinders looked good from the top side when I was in there to look with no scuffs. The cam and crank they said were shot because of the fragments. There were pieces of the bearing in oil pan and such. Should I keep my block and just put everything new in or get a reman for 1900 plus shipping and the old block. Everything else on the motor was marine so apparently just the block and internals were vehicle. A reman motor installed from them was going to be $5350. Let me know what you think.

8-12 hours work to swap things over, depending on how much cleaning and painting you do of the old parts.

Think about doing it yourself or with a buddy, or find someone else. You're probably into those guys for $400-500 just to pull and tear down the engine.

I think $5300's a little high probably marking up the engine to 2500-2900

I would like to do it myself but I don't know if I would know where all the electronics and parts go back on. Can you figure about the same cost to tear down as put back together if you don't paint anything? I was looking at usenginesinc for the reman unless you guys have a better recommendation. I suppose I could put it in and together and bring it back in to make sure wiring and timing is correct and such. I dont have engine stand or the alignment tool, but is there anything else I need. New carb gasket? Usengines give the option for 50 more hp for $100 but with a 2 barrel carb I probably wouldn't see an improvement?

When you get a new long block they should send you all the gaskets you need. You will need the manuel to see if you need any special tools. It will also guid you through the rebuild.
