update...pulled cylinder head. found scoring at the bottom of my problem cylinder. scoring pretty deep toward the bottom of the cylinder. the top and sides are fine. what would cause this??

Water intrusion, broken ring, lack of lubrication to name a few.
How about some photos ???

Sounds like powerhead replacement time, shouldn't be too hard to find, these motors are a dime a dozen.
