Hey folks,

Just wondering what size bilge I should use to replace the old unit I currently have in my boat.

It's a 15'6" Larson 1550 Shark. I know most would say a bilge that can move as much as possible, but was wondering what y'all would recommend and what type? Automatic, non-auto, size, make??? Any input would be appreciated.

TIA.

Re: What size bilge???

500, 750, and 1000 gallon/hour pumps are all about the same size to take your pick. My choice on that size boat would be 500 or 750. If its taking on more water than that you had better be close to shore. On that size boat a manual is just fine unless the boat is in the water all the time. Then you want an automatic as many a boat have sunk during downpours or when a wave has gone over the stern when the owner wasn't around to flip the switch. Rule is one of the more common names and are available almost anywhere including here on iBoats.

Never heard anyone say their pump was too large. Realistically, though, I'd replace with the biggest one that would fit my existing plumbing. Up to 800 or so usually has 3/4" plumbing, larger usually has 1 1/8" ...

Re: What size bilge???

Thanks guys. I've already ordered a Rule-Mate 750 automatic. It should be here any day now.

Matter of fact, I just got through pre-wiring everything, so when it does arrive I'll just slap the sucker in.

Chose an automatic because it will be in the water most of the time at our recently acquired home/camp on the lake.:D
