I just purchased a 2004 C310s (10') the boat is rated for 15 hp max. I have notice people using a 9.9 hp. Any recommendations out there?

My oppinion is that the weight is the main factor especialy on 4 strokes outboards, but if you can find a 2 strokes johnson or evinrude go for the 15 hp they weight the same like a 9.9.
good luck

Yamaha dealers probably still have new 2 stroke 15's. Easy to start and great runners. Get 'em while they last!

I have to agree with Deejay cee, works mighty fine, would reccomend Smart Tabs, and a change of underwear first trip out though!

Cheers,

Snow.

PS: Did notice the boat to be a bit squirrelly over 35mph.

I am new to this and also have a 310s. I will be powering it with a 1976 15 horse Johnson, I assume its a two stroke since it requires a mixture. So is a 4 stroke lighter or heavier and by how much for similar HP numbers? My boat is older so its only rated for 10hp but what the hell, a cooler of beer up front should help offset the extra 5hp. Hahaha!!

Four strokes are quite alot heavier and dont have the same acceleration as the 2 strokes.

I have a 15hp Johnson on my Rib which weighs approx 36kgs.
A 15hp four stroke would be more like 50+kgs

25hp yamaha 2-stroke will push it nicely ....

Deejaycee, every body knows you are a extreme experienced boater, 25 HP for that 310 sib would be excessive, max a 18 horse, Seems Skippyzod & Sqrlnts are both newbies so a bit of power prudence would be my opinion untill they tame the beast. A 25 hp yamaha 2-stroke not only will push it nicely, will fly you to the moon :D

A 4 strokes weights at least 10 more Kg compared to same 2 strokes engines.

That's a sib or a rib ? (big performance differences) after playing around with tunnel cats with 50 HP on them, that would be the least to go. By the way, you need to be positioned as prow mask for that boat/engine combo when at wot alone ? :D

Hahahaha it is a normal sib full inflatable but I customized it a little added some highjackers to make it a tunnel hull and added a thicker transom and a stronger floorboard so the motor don't rip out ..... yes I have to go on plane very slowly sitting on the nose otherwise it will just fall over, but once it goes it flies, and no way you can survive a wave hahaha, flipping it is alot of fun!
