What size motor?

I have a 1977 Starcraft Supersport 18. I currently have a 55 hp johnson twin powering it. The transom is in excellent condition. the data plate says its rated for 150 hp. I recently purchased a 115 hp evinrude FICHT. A friend says that the motor might be too much for the light aluminum boat. has anyone had a similar motor on a boat like this? how did it handle? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

you don't have to use it all, i had a 90 on an 18 ft aluminum. it would get squirrielly sometimes. smooth water it would fly..

Thanks for your input.How fast did that 90 push you? Any idea why they rate the motor size so high? what would be the best size for a boat like this? Thanks again.
