What size OB for my Venture 17 sail boat

I am looking for a 4 stroke for my Venture 17 sailboat? Also what is the best and the worst?

I recommend the Tohatsu/Nissan 6 or 8hp. They make the small 4 strokes for some other brands and have a strong reputation for reliability.<br /><br />Good luck.

For a Venture 17 I'd go with a two hp or 3 or 3.5 hp at the max. You don't have much room to play with weight on that light weight boat. I have 2 hp Honda which would push you quite well at hull speed in your boat. I'd recommend a 2 hp or so with a neutral clutch or centrifugal clutch but even that's not critical.

Sorry, forgot to mention you most likely want a long shaft outboard for a 20" transom length.

Thanks everyone. I got a great deal on a Yamaha 4 hp w/ tank on motor. At 49 or so lb it<br />is not to heavy and powers it right along.<br />
