Your 1986 Mercury takes these sparkplugs:<br /><br />NGK... BUHW<br />Champion... L76V

I was running L76V plugs in my 4cyl 50. Just changed over to NGK BUHW and the motor is running a lot better. It maybe because they are new but time will tell. I have read that Mercs like NGK plugs - OMC like Champions. Don't know why.
