What size safety wire?

I'm having trouble tracking down stainless safety wire locally so I'm probably just going to order some from McMaster Carr.

I only need it to safety wire the set screw on the shift slide in my outdrive. What size is most commonly used, .032 / 20 gauge?

Thanks

The thin paper clips work wonders too

Unless you have stainless steel paper clips, I would not use them. Check any hole size you have to go thought with a drill bit and then go several 0.001 under that. Saftey wire is low tolerance and "bumpy".
